A solar battery is cycled every day, not occasionally. That single fact changes what you should buy.
Solar duty is not backup duty
An inverter battery sits fully charged and waits for a power cut. A solar battery is charged slowly all day by a variable source and discharged deeply every evening, day after day. That is a fundamentally harder life, and it needs a deep-cycle battery built for it. An ordinary inverter battery on a solar system will work for a while and then fail well short of its expected life.
Size it against your panels, not your ambitions
Two numbers matter: what your panels realistically generate on an average Noida day, and what you want to draw after sunset. A bank larger than your panels can refill never reaches full charge, which causes sulphation and early failure. A bank too small is discharged too deeply each night, which also shortens life. The right size sits between the two with a little headroom for cloudy days.
Depth of discharge is the lever
Lead-acid battery life is measured in cycles, and cycle count depends heavily on how deeply you discharge each time. Routinely taking a battery down to twenty percent gives far fewer cycles than taking it to fifty. Buying somewhat more capacity than the bare minimum, so each night's draw is a shallower cycle, often costs less over the life of the system than replacing an undersized bank early.
Match the charge controller
- The charge controller's voltage and current limits must suit the battery bank
- Charging profile settings should follow the battery manufacturer's specification
- Solar-hybrid inverters take panel, grid and battery input and need their settings verified
- Wrong settings will damage a new battery quietly over months
Battery types
Solar tubular and deep-cycle flooded batteries are the mainstream choice and are what most Noida rooftop systems use. They need distilled water top-ups on schedule. Sealed options remove the maintenance at higher cost. Whatever the type, the key requirement is that it is rated for daily deep cycling rather than standby backup.
