Replace the set, not the battery

E-rickshaws run batteries in series. Current flows through all of them equally, so the weakest battery limits the whole pack. Put one new battery alongside three tired ones and the new battery is dragged down within weeks, while the old three continue to fade. The apparent saving disappears, and often you end up buying the full set anyway a month later.

Buy matched: same brand, same capacity, ideally the same manufacturing batch. The pack then charges and discharges evenly.

Voltage and capacity

Match the pack voltage your vehicle's controller expects — this is not negotiable. Capacity, in ampere-hours, determines range. Higher capacity gives more range but adds weight and cost, and the vehicle's tray and controller impose practical limits. Tell us your existing configuration and we will confirm what fits.

The charger is part of the purchase

A charger mismatched to the pack is one of the most common reasons a new set fails early. It can overcharge, dry the batteries out and cook the plates, or undercharge and leave them permanently sulphated. When we fit a set we check the charger's output against it, and tell you plainly if the charger needs replacing too.

Habits that decide the lifespan

• Avoid running the pack until the vehicle is crawling — deep discharge is the main killer
• Charge on a healthy charger matched to the pack, not whatever is available
• Keep terminals clean and tight; a loose series connection heats up and damages neighbours
• Check water levels on flooded batteries and top up with distilled water only
• Do not leave the pack sitting discharged overnight

Flooded or sealed

Flooded lead-acid batteries dominate this market because of cost and availability, and they need water top-ups on schedule with distilled water only. Sealed options remove that chore but usually cost more. If nobody will check water levels, factor that into the decision honestly rather than optimistically.
